The outstanding performance at this year’s Notts 10 was in the women’s race with Nottingham-based Juliet Doyle.
Juliet finished 4th overall in a personal best of 56:27, missing the course record by just 15 seconds. The Charnwood AC internationalist repeated last year’s success on a very windy Holme Pierrepont course and a faster time is in her sights in more favourable conditions. Catherine Carlton, Redhill Road Runners was 2nd in 67:27 with Serena Bignall, Holme Pierrepont RR 3rd in 67:42. Carlton was also 1st over 45 veteran in the women’s race with Deon Wallace 1st over 35 in 74:28.
In the men’s race, Alastair Watson, from the host club, Notts AC, led from the gun to outrun the opposition in a time of 52:56 to record the biggest winning margin in the history of the race. John Wadelin, Erewash Valley RC, finished 2nd in 56:20, with Daniel Robinson, BRAT 3rd in 56:22. Graham Moffat, Holme Pierrepont RC was 1st over 40 veteran in 58:59 with Robert Jackson 1st over 50 in 68:12 and Howard Partridge, Holme Pierrepont RC 1st over 60 in 62:52. It was a disappointing fact that only six runners dipped under the one hour mark, the fewest in the 41 years history of the race.
It was the first time we have ran a fun run with this event and although there was a small field of runners the response from them was positive and we shall endeavour to try and attract more runners for next year. The run was won by Luke Jane of Stilton Striders in 5.04 minutes. Second was Finn Moffatt of Rushcliffe AC in 5.49 closely followed by his brother Joss Moffatt in 5.59.
