Bruce's performance was worthy of a mention in the report of the match on the uk athletics website.
"Among the many Team Sheffield event winners was Bruce Raeside who stunned spectators with a convincing win in the 800m. Usually a 1500m runner, the venture into a different event was used to his advantage: ‘I'm very happy with the win. I was trapped in last place at the start but as the others began to tire I still had plenty left because I normally compete in endurance. I managed to make up the distance and felt really strong when I finished.' Raeside will compete at the Norwich Union World Trails and UK Championships in Sheffield on the 9 & 10 of February as he looks towards qualification for this year's Olympics".

North Midlands League, Kettering 14 Oct
Maybe because the venue was nearly 70 miles away only senior men turned up. Technically there were no seniors there because the three who ran, taking advantage of good weather and the pleasant undulating parkland course, are veterans with a combined age of 156 ! Despite this they did the club proud.

Colin Palmer, by far the the baby of the team at just age 40, ran a superb race on the 10K course to finish in 6 th position overall and second in his age group over 40 in a time of 33 minutes 15 seconds.

Meanwhile Dave Oxland,56,despite making the mistake of running in new shoes and finishing with severe blisters, achieved his highest ever position in the league at 50 th in a time of 37 minutes 50 seconds . Dave was easily the best in his age group and in fact was less than 40 seconds behind the first V50 runner.

The evergreen Ken Allen at age 60 finished in 107 th position in 44 minutes 7 seconds and was placed 2 nd in the V60 league table.

The team of three managed 4 th place in the vets team championship with 163 points but, with Redhill 1 st in 40 points, there is a lot of ground to be made up later in the season. Results
