Notts ACs—so near….
Notts Athletics Club at last erased its recent history of coming 4 th in National events by winning Silver medals in the English National Cross Country Championships which were held at Alton Towers last Saturday.
In fact the Notts top team of 6 runners were only 11 points behind Leeds City ACs who scooped the Gold Medals.
Mick Robinson ,Club Chairman and team manager commented “ What makes our performance particular satisfying was the way our top six runners managed to run more or less as a pack within a field of over 1200 runners. In fact our seventh runner was only 4 seconds behind the 6 th scoring member of the team and just missed out on a medal. This is club running at its best!”
Mick went on to say that one or two of the club's best runners were off form due to illness. He added “ It is easy to say if only one of these runners had been fully fit we would have won the Gold medals. However I'm sure the other clubs have similar stories to tell and so we are very happy with the result and will go to next year's championships full of confidence.”
In the meantime Notts can look forward to the road racing season which is due to start next month and will be strong favourites for the Midlands 12 stage road relays as well as very serious contenders for the National relays.
