What's New Archive

Bruce Reaside ran 4.05.81 for the mile tonight 31st July in the Celtic Cup (Scotland, Wales and Ireland), representing Scotland.  He was 5th overall (and 3rd counter in the official race - two guest Australians beat him, one of whom was Craig Mottram.

British Masters Championships 2007

A contingent of veteran athletes from Notts Athletics Club went to the British Masters Athletics Track and Field annual championships at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham , at the weekend and, true to form, there were some outstanding performances.

Notts AC are through to the Auxiliary Final of the National Young Athletes League again!

They finished ahead of Cannock & Staffs at the final match of the NYAL season at Yate, on Sunday.  It was a closely fought match between Notts and Cannock and Staffordshire, with only a few points between them at times and the relays being the deciding factor.

The final scores were Notts AC – 430.5, Cannock and Staffs – 423, Yate – 402.5 and Cheltenham – 252.

The Auxiliary Final will be held on Saturday 1 September at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham .  For results and further information Click Here


Notts Ac 5 Mile Road Race & 1 Mile Fun Run

Excellent weather was matched with some excellent racing. Winners on the night were Billy Farquaharson 24.05 and Tara Krzywicki 27.48. The Fun Run Winners were Blayne Pick 4.59 and Tamsin Smith 6.26.

SIAB Track and Field International at Newport

Following on from Michael's success at the English Schools Championships, he competed for England in the SIAB Track and Field International at Newport on Saturday, 21 July. He won the Silver medal in the 400m in a time of 49.07 and was pipped at the finish by Nathan Wake (48.98), who came second to Michael at English Schools. He also won the Gold medal as part of the 4 x 400m relay team. England won the match overall and results can be found here."


BMC GP Solihull 21st July

Bruce Reaside was in fine form last night in the Solihull BMC GP finishing 8th in the 1500m A race in a new PB of 3.42.89, taking almost 3secs off his previous best. Other athletes in action were Martyn Gibbins 1.53.04 and Richard Warburton 1.54.57 both in the 800m D race finishing 5th and 8th, Nicola Bamford in action again after her fine win in the 3000m Midland Championships a week ago finished 17th in the 3000m A race in 9.59.49.


European Under 23 Champs Debrecen, Hungary July 12/15

Richard Hill Finished 6th in what looks like a Blanket finish in his latest Championship in a time of 1.50.69, The race was won in 1.49.94. Emma Lyons finished 10th in the Pole Vault equaling her PB with a vault of 4.10.

Emma Lyons competed in the Loughborough International at the weekend, claiming her first England vest, and also winning the women's pole vault with a new personal best of 4.10m.

Congratulations to Richard Hill on his selection for the (800M) UK Team at the forthcoming Euro Champs in Gothenburg. This follows his sparkling run at Crystal Palace on Friday 28th July (shown on the BBC coverage) when he won the qualifying "race-off" in 1.46.34.

Jacob Heath 0f Notts AC (under 11) competed in the midland Independent schools athletics at the Alexander stadium and won the 80m and 150m( the 80m a pb of 11.1).He was therefore asked to represent the midlands in the national finals where he gained bronze medals in both events.

Nicola Bamford came 2nd in the 5,000m at the AAA u23 champs 22nd July 2006 at Bedford. Nicola set a new PB of 17:17.98.

Rob Birchall won the Cheshire Championships by nearly 2 mins after leading from Gun to Tape.

Nic Bamford finished 16th in the senior race at the Belfast International XC (incorp. UK Challenge). Running for the Midland seniors, Nic was the 5th under 23 in the race. She is now on the shortlist for an England under 23 vest and will find out if she is successful in the next few weeks.

Well done to Emma Lyons who competed for Derbyshire in the English Schools and finished a very creditable 4th place in the Senior Women Pole Vault with a fantastic jump of 3.25m. She was just 1 failure from a bronze medal!! Our apologies for omitting her performance from the original report. Emma has had a great season competing for Notts in the National Junior League and the Midland Womens League. She is hoping to go to Cardiff Uni in the autumn, but we sincerely hope that she will be coming back to compete for us next season!

Sincere apologies go to Matt Ashley - our superstar U17 High Jumper. In our previous report regarding English Schools achievements, we ommitted to say that Matt finished 6th in the Inter Boys High Jump. That was a great achievement and a very well done to Matt, who is jumping better than ever, aschieving a new pb at the recent NYAL match (see earlier report)


Chris Warburton won the 800m A race at the BMC Gold Standard in Watford on Wednesday night (27/7/05) He won in a personel best time of 1.49.37.


Congratulations to the National Young Athletes team who won their match at Mansfield at the weekend. Against some good opposition they finally finished ahead by 87 points with Mansfield in second place. It was a very hot day at Berry Hill, but all the athletes pulled out all the stops as usual and gave some very good performances (Full results will be posted when we recieve them).
With one match to go, Notts are looking good for a Finals place in September. With a great team effort we can do it!


World Police and Firefighters Championships Quebec City, Canada. 24th June to 3rd July

Congratulations to Dalton Powell who acheived Gold in the 100m (11.31s) and Gold in the 200m (23.35s). He also got a Silver in the 4 x 100m.
Dalton said that he was running with a lot of pain throughout the Championships and was later diagnosed with a hernia!!


CONGRATULATIONS TO RICHARD HILL FOR BEING SELECTED FOR THE 800M AT EUROPEAN U 20 CHAMPS.

Chris Warburton fiished 5th in the 1500m at the European under 23 champs at the weekend, He ran 3.48.50 and was within a third of a second from getting a medal.

Well done Jane!!

Jane Pidgeon represented Great Britain in the 1500m against France and Belgium in Kent on 25th June, finishing 4th.
The following day she fininshed 2nd in the British Masters 5km Champs in Harwich in a time of 18.32.


Congratulations go to Richard Hill who has been selected to compete in the World University Championships in Turkey in August. He is waiting to hear whether he has been selected for the European U20 Team.
